What Does It Mean That Jesus Christ Is the Cornerstone?

2 min read

Have you ever wondered why the Bible calls Jesus Christ the cornerstone? This beautiful image helps us understand just how important Jesus is to our faith and our everyday lives.

What Is a Cornerstone?

In traditional stone construction, a cornerstone is a large, carefully placed stone that forms the corner of a building's foundation. It helps establish the alignment of the walls and provides a solid starting point for the structure.

Without a strong foundation, a building can become unstable. In much the same way, our spiritual lives need a firm foundation to help us stand strong through life's challenges.

Why Is Jesus Called the Cornerstone?

The Bible describes Jesus as the chief cornerstone because He is the foundation of our faith. Everything we believe and everything we build in our spiritual lives should be centered on Him.

Ephesians 2:20 (KJV) says:

"Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;"

This verse reminds us that Jesus is not simply a part of our faith. He is the One upon whom our faith is built.

When we trust Him, follow His teachings, and build our lives around His Word, we establish a foundation that can help us remain steady even when life becomes difficult.

How Can We Build Our Lives on Jesus?

Making Jesus the cornerstone of our lives means allowing Him to guide our decisions, shape our character, and strengthen our faith.

We can do this by:

  • Spending time in Scripture and learning His teachings.

  • Praying regularly and bringing our worries and concerns to Him.

  • Practicing love and forgiveness in our relationships with others.

  • Trusting Him during difficult seasons, even when we cannot see what lies ahead.

Building our lives on Jesus does not mean we will never experience hardship. It means we have a firm spiritual foundation to turn to when the storms of life come.

A Foundation That Will Stand

Jesus Christ is called the cornerstone because He is the One who gives our faith its foundation, direction, and stability.

When we build our lives on Him, we can face uncertainty with hope, endure suffering with faith, and grow in our relationship with God.

The question we can each ask ourselves is this: Is Jesus truly the cornerstone of my life, or have I been building my foundation on something else?

The more we trust Him and follow His Word, the more firmly our lives become rooted in His truth.
